Gary’s first major success was the development and eventual sale of Abacus Recruitment plc. An IT specialist recruiter, Gary floated Abacus on AIM where it was the top performing share in the market in both 1996 and 1997. The sale to Carlisle Holdings in 1998 realised a 10-fold increase in value for Abacus shareholders and cemented Gary’s reputation in The City.
And now Gary is the founder and Executive Chairman of InterQuest, a group of specialist IT recruitment business which floated on AIM in May 2005. InterQuest is formed of a number of niche IT skills suppliers covering banking and finance, communications, testing, SAP/ERP, the public sector, communications and CRM. Gary’s philosophy is speedy but careful acquisition followed by rigorous organic growth through efficient process and centralised back office functions which allow the senior management real freedom to grow their businesses at pace.
Gary has invested in many other businesses, both public and private, mainly in the service sector and has successfully mentored their founders. He has written for various business publications, has lectured students at the London Business School and is a Fellow and past president of the Institute of Employment Consultants. |

Steve Morrisey is a seasoned recruitment professional and shares Gary Ashworth’s entrepreneurial vision.
With over 15 years’ experience Steve worked his way through the ranks to a sales management role with S-Com before founding his own organisation, ecrm people, in July 2000.
ecrm people grew impressively for 7 years before a trade sale to InterQuest Group in 2007. Since then Steve has stayed at ecrm people as MD and has played an increasing role in helping to bring new IQ Equity joint ventures on stream using his experience and pragmatism to ensure a smooth and successful launch.
Now as Chief Executive Steve’s role is to identify and qualify new IQ Equity venture opportunities. The aim is to build niche / specialist recruitment capabilities to drive the business up the value chain and Steve works closely with the JV partners to produce and implement winning business plans. |

Michael joined InterQuest in February 2004. He was previously Group Financial Controller of Rebus Group Limited. He also has experience of the recruitment industry, having worked as part of the finance team at Robert Walters plc. Michael qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand, where he spent seven years prior to joining Robert Walters plc. |
